Meta Muse vs ChatGPT vs Claude: which AI agent should you use?

Muse is Meta's personal AI agent, launched September 8, 2026 and powered by the Muse Spark models. You give it a goal and it plans and does the work: browsing, filling out forms, drafting and sending email, booking and buying, with your approval on anything sensitive. It runs on a dedicated, persistent cloud computer with its own browser that you and the agent share (Meta).

How Muse connects to your apps

Where ChatGPT is ahead

• A longer track record and a larger ecosystem of apps and features.
• Developer mode supports remote MCP tools with both read and write actions, for building your own integrations (OpenAI).
• Available well beyond the US today.

Where Muse is ahead

• Built around acting for you: it keeps working after you close the app and reports back.
• Checkout with one-time card numbers through Link, with approval before any purchase.

Where Claude is ahead

• Custom connectors over remote MCP on every plan, including Free, across web, desktop and mobile (Anthropic).

All three put approvals in front of risky actions, and all three warn that connecting third-party tools carries risk. Meta says Muse runs each user in an isolated machine, asks before sending messages or buying, keeps a full record of what it did, and does not share conversations with its ad systems. OpenAI's developer mode documentation warns about prompt injection and write actions that could destroy data. Anthropic notes that custom connectors reach services it has not verified. The practical rule is the same everywhere: connect only services you trust and keep approvals on for anything irreversible.

On downloads, briefly. Muse became the top free iPhone app in the US on September 18, 2026, and passed 2.5 million downloads by September 21, according to Sensor Tower data reported by CNBC. Over the same window ChatGPT had about 3.1 million downloads and Claude about 400,000. Download counts are not usage, and ChatGPT's installed base is far larger.
