The Google Sheets connection lets an agent work in spreadsheets in a connected Google account. It reads and writes cell values by A1 range, one range or several at once, appends rows below a table, clears ranges, creates spreadsheets, and applies structural edits such as adding or deleting sheets and formatting.

01

Setup

  1. Start the install. In the superagnt app open Integrations, pick Google Sheets and press Connect with Google.
  2. Approve access. Pick the Google account and approve. superagnt_ asks for your Google Sheets (spreadsheets), per-file Drive access (drive.file), and your email address and profile, which label the connection.

Each Google app connects on its own: connecting Google Sheets gives no access to Google Docs, Google Calendar or Google Search Console. When one of those is already connected, the Google Sheets dialog offers Connect Google Sheets, which asks that same Google account for the Sheets permission only. superagnt_ refreshes Google's access tokens for you.

Things to know

  • A spreadsheet's id is in its URL: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/<spreadsheetId>/edit. The spreadsheets scope reaches every spreadsheet the Google account can open.
  • Ranges use A1 notation, such as Sheet1!A1:C10. Quote a sheet name that has spaces ('Q3 leads'!A1:D50), and percent-encode the range in a REST path.
  • Every value write needs valueInputOption: USER_ENTERED parses each value as if typed into Sheets (formulas, numbers, dates), RAW stores it as given. On update and append it is a query parameter, on the values batch_update a body field.
  • update replaces what is in the range. append finds the table the range points at and writes the rows below it.
  • Reads return formatted values by default. Pass valueRenderOption=UNFORMATTED_VALUE for raw values or FORMULA for the formulas.
  • connection_google_sheets_spreadsheets_read returns the spreadsheet's sheets and named ranges. includeGridData=true adds the cell data, of the ranges you pass or of every sheet, which can make a very large response.
  • Clearing a range keeps its formatting and cannot be undone through the API. Clears always ask a person first by default, and every other operation runs without asking (Permissions).
  • The connection does not cover Google Drive: it cannot list, search, share, move or delete spreadsheets.

Examples

Create a spreadsheet

create a spreadsheetbash
curl -X POST "https://api.superagnt.com/v1/connections/google-sheets/v4/spreadsheets" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $AGNTDATA_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"properties": {"title": "Q4 pipeline"}}'

Append rows

append below the tablebash
curl -X POST 'https://api.superagnt.com/v1/connections/google-sheets/v4/spreadsheets/<spreadsheetId>/values/Sheet1!A1:append?valueInputOption=USER_ENTERED' \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $AGNTDATA_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"values": [["2026-10-19", "Acme Corp", 4200]]}'

Read a range

read cell valuesbash
curl 'https://api.superagnt.com/v1/connections/google-sheets/v4/spreadsheets/<spreadsheetId>/values/Sheet1!A1:C10' \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $AGNTDATA_API_KEY"
04// mcp tools

5 tools, one per resource and risk

MCP servers and agents on the grouped surface list Google Sheets as these tools. Each takes an action, and the ones that work across record types an object. Every operation also keeps its own per-operation name, in the next table, which works on every server. How grouping works: Grouped tools.
